Type Locality and Naming

Along the Sarydiirmen mountain, northern slope of the Karatau ridge, Mangyshlak Peninsula. V.V. Mokrinin in 1935 (69, p.31). Stratotype on the Sarydiirmen mountain.

At the Samarkand stratigraphic conference in 1971 (383) on the E. Ustyurt, undifferentiated Bazaryn Fm and Sarydiirmen Fm were distinguished at the top of the section, which V.V. Kurbatov and V.N. Polyakov renamed the Raushan Fm (Legend of the Priaral subseries sheets of geological maps of the 1:200000 scale, 1998). Sarydiirmen Horizon - Along the Sarydiirmen suite, Mangyshlak Peninsula. V.V. Kurbatov, V.N.Polyakov, E.A.Repman, V.I.Troitsky et al., 1978 (252, p.86). Sarydiirmen Horizon - The stratotype of the Deghibadam suite in Kugitangtau (Khojaryz) and the Tanghiduval suite in the city of Susyztau, S.-W. Gissar, was adopted.

Lithology and Thickness

Greenish-gray and brownish clays, carbonaceous clays with layers of siltstone (aleurolites) and sands, rarely coals; at the base, sandstone (5-8m) with large concretions. Thickness 80m.

Sarydiirmen Horizon - Thickness in the stratotype 230m.

Relationships and Distribution

Lower contact

Overlies the Bazarlin Fm. Sarydiirmen Horizon - Transgressively overlies the Paleozoic, Gurdsk Horizon

Upper contact

Transgressively or conformably overlain by Callovian and Cretaceous. Sarydiirmen Horizon - overlain by the Baysun Horizon.

Regional extent

Central Mangyshlak, along the foothills of the Karatau ridge, at the Karasiaz, OguzKugusem, on the S. Mangyshlak, Ustyurt, in Northern Turkmenistan, wells reveal undifferentiated analogs of the described and Bazarlin Fm.

Sarydiirmen Horizon - Mangyshlak, Ustyurt, southwest Gissar, Charjou step. Combines the Ograt Fm of Tuarqyr, Bazarlin Fm and Sarydiirmen Fm of Mangyshlak, Raushan Fm of S. Ustyurt, Deghibadam Fm and Tanghiduval Fm within the Charjou step of S.-W. Gissar and the Bukhara-Karshinsky region.

Fossils

Contains ammonites - Parkinsonia sp.; marine bivalve mollusks - Cucullaea cf. subdecussata Goldf., Protocardia stricklandi Mor. et Lyc., Pleuromya decurtata Phill., Dictyophyllum rugosum L. et H., large plant remains - Phlebopteris polypodioides Brongn., Coniopteris vialovae Tur.-Ket.

Sarydiirmen Horizon - Contains ammonites, marine bivalve mollusks, large plant remains, spores, and pollen (383, table 5).


Age 

Initially belonged to the u. Bajocian - Bathonian. T.A. Ishina (476) attributed it to the Bathonian, including the Bazarlin in the S. suite; N.V. Beznosov et al. (91) attributed the Sarydiirmen Fm to the u. Bajocian - n. Bathonian; A.A. Saveliev and A.K. Kalugin - to the Bathonian (456). A.K. Kalugin". Strat. sl. (446). The age of the Sarydiirmensky Horizon is determined as late Bajocian - mid Bathonian.
